Medium is the best thing that ever happened to me in my blogging journey. There’s something about Medium, and I think it’s about time you know my side of the story.

In this post, I will tell you three important things which might be of interest to you.

  1. Why Medium is better than your traditional blog?
  2. How to make the best use of Medium?
  3. How to make money blogging on Medium?

Medium is a social publishing platform that is open to all and home to a diverse array of stories, ideas, and perspectives. One great thing about Medium is that it’s about the value of your ideas. It’s not just another place where the biggest names and celebrities dominate.

Medium is a beautiful space for reading and writing. Medium is not about who you are or whom you know but about what you have to say. And Medium has the best web-based editor I’ve ever seen.

Anyone who has a Medium account can write for Medium — there’s no other vetting process involved. To get started, simply sign up for a free Medium account (or upgrade to the full $5/month membership for unlimited access), and you’re ready to start writing from there.

#Why Medium Is Better Than Your Traditional Blog

In the digital age, bloggers have more choices to post and share their work. One question I’ve often heard is, “Should I start my blog website or post on a free blogging platform like Medium?”

I have been using the Blogger platform and hosted dozens of WordPress websites. I am a web designer from the 1998 era. So trust me when I say this.

If your sole purpose is to write and earn money, there’s no better platform than Medium on the planet. And you can forget the alternatives such as Hubpages and Quora.

Remember, when it comes to building your website, web designers, perhaps including me, will tell you to create a personal brand: a custom-built website. Next, many SEO experts will entice you on Search Engine Optimization. Frankly speaking, all they want is your business.

Do not get me wrong here. Building a brand is a smart choice. And SEO is important when you are hosting your website. However, these things are no guarantee that you will succeed.

You have all the time in the world to switch to self-hosting, most probably after you start earning a six-figure income or when you want to start your online shop.

In this striving stage, why invest money in web design, SEO, and hosting? Why not invest in promoting your Medium posts on social media through ads? If you have huge followers on social media, you can save your money from investing in Ads.

In a nutshell, Medium is the best blogging platform with an enthusiastic inbuilt community waiting for your great content.

#How To Make The Best Use of Medium?

Don’t just follow the crowd. Create your plans, goals, and strategies. Keep this also in mind, don’t try to be a maverick only to get stuck.

First and foremost, if you’re going to use the subdomain, set it up right away before you publish any post. It will help you in getting your blog found sooner on the search.

You can keep yourself away from using the custom domain.

If I am not mistaken, having a custom domain doesn’t appeal to me at all. It is neither integration nor does it give full customization access. Nobody reads a story just because the author has a custom domain on Medium.

Use powerful images. A compelling image at the top of your content can help draw more readers into your post. Add an image immediately after your headline to guarantee it will appear as part of your teaser on mobile news feeds. You will find high-definition photos on pexels.com for free.

Format your post. Writers can choose from a set list of different elements to spice up the design of a post.

First, there are different headline arrangements and styles.

Second, there are several different ways to display photos in your post, either as background images, full-width images, inline images, or aligned images.

All of these formatting options come available while writing and editing by either selecting text or by clicking the “+” button that hovers on the page.

Post regularly. You can’t just set up a Medium account, post the occasional article, and expect to gain any real traction. You’ll have to work at it. That means regularly posting interesting content.

Pay to promote. You can run ads on Facebook and Twitter to promote your Medium posts (and check out this post about content advertising to learn more about paid content promotion). With just $50 as a catalyst, you can give your content a little inaugural push, to help it get to 200 hearts within 24 hours.

#How To Make Money Blogging on Medium?

Medium.com is one of the few blogging platforms on the internet where you can quickly sign up, post your great content, and get paid after a month.

When you enroll in the Medium Partner Program (which is free and open to the public), you can start earning money with your Medium content. When Medium Members clap (now reading time), a portion of their $5 monthly subscription fee is paid directly to the author.

A beautiful woman smiling and blogging on her phone.

Let’s now get to the core. The reason why I joined Medium is not necessarily the money Medium Partner Program offers me. I want to scale higher on the internet, especially on the Search Engine.

According to Alexa, Medium is the 272 most popular website in the world in terms of traffic and is ranked 137 in the United States.

The second reason is I want to digitalize my stories so that my stories become immortal.

If you want to make money blogging, forget about the money for a while and start writing great content for the web.

When people love your stories, like the river, you cannot stop the flow of money coming in your direction. I guaranteed you that.

The road to becoming a successful, financially independent blogger is long and hard but the rewards of reaching your goal can be very satisfying.

At the end of the day, you can make money on Medium and also use the platform to promote your other websites and businesses.
